My mom always told me that if I don’t like something, I should try to do it better by myself. Having little access to the music I could catch on the radio and on MTV (and being majorly dissatisfied with it) made me start composing music that I would enjoy. That’s how I started experimenting with FL Studio and couldn’t stop. After a year of college, I shared my music with a classmate, who told me “Finally, we’ve found something you’re good at!” – since then music composition and making beats became something where I felt “in the zone.” My dissatisfaction with music industry didn’t end there. In search of a good way to get my music heard I explored the available platforms – YouTube was merely for funny videos at the time, Spotify didn’t exist, and SoundCloud had just become known as a promising startup, which almost immediately turned into a spam battleground. This is when I learned development and launched DubstepRadio.ru, which was a hit for a couple of years, due to the popularity of the genre and the concept behind it – producers had to be voted into the main playlist, which served both as a marketing tool and quality control. With the decline in the genre popularity, and personal life focus on family and kids (2 daughters now, 12 and 2yo), I had to step away from my passion. But the rise of NFTs and Web3 space inevitably sucks me back in – and I’m absolutely thrilled to be back to review the NFT platforms for the musicians, marketing tactics, business models, and musicians projects.
